PTSD: Beyond Trauma

White Pine Pictures/CBC (2017)

1 hour TV documentary (Producer)

Scientists are developing increasingly clear pictures of the brain circuitry that results in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). But as they search for a sure-fire treatment, they’re still trying to understand a confounding question. When so many people experience the trauma of sudden loss, near-death, and violence, what makes some more vulnerable to PTSD than others?

Directed by Patrick Reed, Beyond Trauma explores a timely subject situated at the intersection of science and human interest, with life-and-death stakes. It takes viewers to the frontlines of scientific exploration, following researchers and people living with PTSD as they look for answers. Unfolding discoveries raise key questions about the fault-lines of fear and memory, and the roles geography and childhood development all may play in predicting personal responses to trauma.
